Kai Breaks New Ground With ES Magazine NFT

By Lizzie Edmonds

Model, poet and activist Kai-Isaiah Jamal is the star of a first-of-its-kind cover for ES Magazine.

The magazine created a three-dimensional moving work of art, starring Jamal and set to music by James Lavelle, and the front cover is a still image from that artwork.

The artwork will be auctioned as an NFT — or “non-fungible token” — a unique digital work which acts as the certificate of ownership.

The funds raised will go to our charity partner the Felix Project.

Jamal, who is referred to by the pronouns they/them, made waves in the fashion industry through Stella McCartney’s 2019 breast cancer campaign, for which they wrote a poem about how the disease can affect the trans community. The ES shoot was at London’s FBFX headquarters, where costumes have been made for films like Guardians of the Galaxy.
