SIGNE PIERCE in

AMERICAN REFLEXXX

20 JANUARY – 11 FEBRUARY 2018

New Release, NEW YORK, USA

American Reflexxx will begin its run at New Release on Saturday, January 20th from 6-9 PM. New Release is a former video rental store in Chinatown that was converted into an art gallery in 2015.

In keeping with the history of the space, the interior of New Release will be filled with a lush lighting design by Signe Pierce, incorporating elements of decor that are signature to a classic video store or cinema screening room. The short film American Reflexxx (dir. Alli Coates) will be screening on a loop on a mounted television.

Inviting guests to stop in on cold winter afternoons, sit on the couch and absorb the provocative film, New Release will expand from a gallery to a place where one can come to relax and enjoy a safe space whilst hopefully inspiring social and political discourse among both friends and strangers.

Signe Pierce is a multimedia artist whose work straddles performance, photography, video, social media, light design and installation.  As a self-described “reality artist”, Pierce’s work is inspired by the concept of reality being an artistic medium, and that an artist’s life can be viewed within a similar context as an artist’s work.  Her work often explores multi-layered perceptions, and the ways that we discern what is considered “real” or “actual” within a burgeoning era of hyperreality and technological singularity.

Over the past year, Pierce has participated in multiple performances, installations, and exhibitions, including solo shows at Annka Kultys Gallery in London and Galerie Nathalie Halgand in Vienna, an installation and performance at the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, Germany, a performance at the Museum of Modern Art, and an artist’s talk at Yale University. She is the star and co-creator of the acclaimed short film,  American Reflexxxwhich has received multiple awards and has been screened in over 15 countries.
